When I got my attorney on the phone, I told him what was going on and he made an appointment for me that afternoon. In the middle of my story, he interrupted me “You are really in a mess here.”

“Yeah I know. What should I do?”

“Well, the first thing you have to do is change the locks on the doors and stop talking to Dick. If he calls you, don’t answer, if he shows up at the house, don’t answer the door. I’ll run his name to see if he has a record, or if he’s on the sex offender list, and you sit tight. You might want to consider staying in a hotel for a few days until he calms down.”

“It won’t be too much of a problem to change the locks, because there aren’t any doorknobs or locks there now. Can we sue him?”

“Well, I don’t suggest that right now. If he’ll just go away so you can hire someone else to finish your house, that would really be the best solution and will save you a lot of money. He probably won’t do anything except fume and threaten for a while. He has 90 days to file a lien. If he doesn’t do anything in that period of time, you can move on and finish the house. Until then, sit tight and see what happens.”

“Ninety days?”

“Yeah, I know it seems like a long time, but in the scheme of things it can save you a lawsuit that will surely drag on a lot longer than three months and cost you thousands of dollars.”

90 DAYS! YIKES!

OMG, I thought you were through with “Dick”. I can’t believe he is not sitting in jail somewhere. Sadly I have not been following “She Builds” but certainly will now. Your nightmare with that monster has gone on “forever”. I would do what ever I could to get some money out of him so you can fix his mistakes and then put his sorry behind where he can’t mess up anyone else’s life. I am so sorry for what you are going through.

  17. Barbara Says:

Geez, it sounds like one of the Ann Rule books I’m reading right now. That’s scary and wine ain’t gonna help. When your attorney says to leave, I’d leave.
Can you move in with someone nearby? If not, I’d get out and stay in a hotel. Not kidding.

  18. Anne Says:

OH I am praying for you! What a situation to be in! I am glad you have a good attorney and I think you need to take his advice. Be safe, your home is coming along beautifully and I wish you peace. We need to peace, quiet and calm together.

  23. Jim Says:

O RM, this is getting bad now. I will be with Mom and Anne and pray for you. And I hope by now Dick has figured it out that he is through and will leave.

Did the lawyer write you a letter of dismissal for him or something so that he will officially be put on notice. Changing the locks (locking him out) is a good start but only may work if you can show he wanted to continue.

I read all your ‘back issues’ last month. It will make a best seller. Just have somebody kill him and of course you will be the prime suspect. WRONG!!!
    ..

  24. Pam Beers Says:

I am so very sorry that your having these kind of problems building your dream home. It’s not fair that this idiot has put you through so much.
There has to be something that you can do to get your home finished. I pray these problems end and you can get your on with your dream.
    Thinking of you.
    Love
    Maggie
