At the End of the Day – Drinking While Cooking

Written by Rocky Mountain Woman on May 4, 2012 – 6:09 am -

I spend my entire day talking to, writing to or emailing attorneys. Is it any wonder that I drink?

When I get home from the office most days, the first thing I do is open a bottle of wine, put something fun on the stereo and start chopping vegetables. On the evenings that I get home before dark, my kitchen is usually dappled with the subdued light of late afternoon. In the summer, I open the kitchen windows so the silky mountain air can fill the room. It doesn’t matter much what I’m making, what matters is the ritual: The pop of the cork as I extract it from the bottle, the satisfying sound the wine makes as I liberate it from the bottle and into the glass. The setting sun lights up the glass as I toast the end of the workday and the beginning of a well-deserved evening.

Try it sometime, you might be surprised at how creative you can get in the kitchen…

Then there are those nights when the beauty of the mountains takes my breath away. On those nights, I take my wine out on the deck with some bread and cheese and call it a day.

Do you have a nightly routine? Does it involve wine? lol…. Do you always make dinner or do you sometimes goof off on the deck with cheese? Inquiring minds want to know.

xxoo,

oh i do wish my nightly routine included wine … sadly, i now seem to have allergies or sensitivities to most wines and the side affects are not worth the taste … but i do miss it, greatly …

Oh how I wish I could but I would hate to throw 35 years down the drain. It sounds wonderful, relaxing and if I had that view, I doubt I would eat anything but would just drink in the beauty with a spot of tea.

Definitely all of the above and I don’t communicate with lawyers all day. Tonight it was red in a plastic cup watching the moon rise from the hotel parking lot in Page, AZ!

Oh honey I did not realize you had such a rough job. Talking to attorneys all day would ware the heck out of me. Ms Pearl would come alive again. I use to date an attorney. Boy I need to do a post on that time. lol
How I love you shared this nightly ritual with us. Strange I was just telling someone the other day how I miss Gretchen living out here because we shared a many bottle of wine and cooked dinners together.
I think I should start this ritual with you and I have a feeling my life and cooking would improve for the better.
Oh dear friend how I wish we lived closer together.
You will have to give me suggestions on my wines to buy
    Love ya
    Maggie
    PS
    Do you save your corks?

Wine, cheese, and bread is really all you need for dinner when it comes down to it! Love this post.

  6. Pondside Says:

A glass of good wine at the end of a hard/long day is a lovely thing. In the summer I like a glass of prosecco or a nice crisp verde, but in winter it’s always red.

    aaaaaaahhhhhhhh….
glorious! I have bought into your vision!
No, no nightly rituals here. Every night is different. If I don’t feel like cooking (and the hubby’s not around) I will often make popcorn and a smoothie. But I just might take you up on the wine and cheese thing, maybe add some fruit like grapes. (Hubby would like that, too!)

I’ve not found a nightly routine yet at the new house!

    But I love yours!

  9. JDaniel4's Mom Says:

Our evenings are filled with stories, bathtime, and daddy and JDaniel time on YouTube!

For this non-drinking momma, my glass of wine is a Dreyer’s fruit bar. It changes from time to time. I had a Swedish Fish phase, then a giant bowl of cereal phase. And it’s always minutes after I say good night to my crew. Me time. :)
