I opened a bottle of this to drink with some grilled shrimp last weekend.

The wine had some lovely fruit undertones. There were elements of peach and pear with a nice level of acidity that makes it very food friendly. Pinot Grigio is not my favorite white, but this had more body and character than the average. It was absolutely perfect with the shrimp!

Great summer wine!!!

DAUGHTER OF THE SAINTS

Written by Rocky Mountain Woman on August 26, 2011 – 6:23 am -

So, I decided that my novel needed a polygamous family since it’s set in Utah during the time of polygamy. In the process of doing a little research, I came across this book. It’s the story Dorothy Allred Solomon, the daughter of a famous polygamist leader, Rulon Allred. While it wasn’t of much help from a research standpoint (it is too current), it was a well written and compelling account of modern day polygamy. I was intrigued by Ms. Solomon’s courage in talking about a subject that is taboo to talk about if you are born into polygamy. She manages to tell her story with dignity and tact, without betraying her love for her family. It’s an honest, intelligent peek into a world that most of us will never understand.

This will get your motor running……

Ingredient list:

1/2 lb bacon
4 large garlic cloves
2 lbs ground beef
1 Poblano pepper
2/3 cup Panko
2 large eggs
4 cups chopped onions, preferably red
Freshly grated Parmesan cheese – lots!
5 T minced fresh basil
2 t dried crushed red pepper
2 t Kosher salt
pepper from the mill
2 28 ounce cans of diced tomatoes in juice
3 T olive oil
2 cups white wine
1 1/2 lbs spaghetti

Start by roasting, peeling and dicing a poblano pepper

Chop the bacon

put the ground meat in a large mixing bowl, add 1/2 of the bacon and 1/2 of the garlic (pressed through a garlic press)

panko

eggs

1/2 cup chopped red onion

2 T basil, red pepper, 1/3 cup grated Parmesan, 1 T salt and pepper from the mill

Mix it all up with your hands and form into medium sized balls. Fry the rest of the bacon until crispy and set aside. Fry the meatballs in a little of the bacon grease until browned and cooked through

Pour the tomatoes (I use San Marzano when I can get them) in a blender

blend until smooth

saute 3 1/2 cups of diced onions until slightly carmelized

move to a large dutch oven

and add the tomato puree and wine, simmer for about 1/2 hour, while you kick off your shoes, put a pot of water on to boil for the pasta, and pour yourself the glass of wine you so richly deserve

Add 2 T of the basil, bacon, salt and pepper to taste

Cook the pasta according to the directions, drain and top with the meatballs, sauce, the rest of the basil and a good amount of grated Parmesan….

mama mia……

Try it with a spicy Zinfandel. Zin tends to have peppery undertones which will compliment the spicy peppers in the sauce!
